Contracting Info Kessler GIS takes pride in customer satisfaction for all GIS contracts. I work diligently to have fulfilled clients using ArcGIS, through supportive consulting, education and training. My best form of advertisement is a gratified customer – a customer that realizes that I work hard for them. Kessler GIS has basically two types of contracts: firm-fixed and time-and-materials. With either method, you will receive a firm quote or estimate and a specific set of tasks and deliverables. Please contact Kessler GIS for more information. Briefly, the types of contracts are outlined below. Firm-fixed is generally for teaching a class or easily defined deliverables. This is the best option for products that have been created before-hand and deliverables are well defined. Some consulting work can be priced this way. In this case, the deliverables should be well known by the client, both in final products as well as what it will take to create the products (Kessler GIS can help inform clients in this case). Without clearly defined products clients often change their minds mid-way through a project. Often they wish to add more. This is called "scope creep" and it becomes difficult to stay within budget without renegotiating the contract, which in some cases is very difficult and often expensive. Time-and-materials is generally used for consulting and course development where the deliverable is only generally defined and may be a moving target. This is an excellent option that allows the client to learn and make changes as the project progresses. Billing occurs monthly and shows hours spent on specific tasks and a cost per hour as well as materials purchased for the contract, including mileage, per diem, travel expenses, supplies, etc. Anything related to the creation of the product is summarized each month. Clients are kept fully informed as to progress and challenges. There is a certain amount of trust needed between the client and Kessler GIS for this type of contract to be successful. This is may be the most cost-effective method when the product is not clearly defined. |
